Is listing a unit free?
Yes, during our launch. No card is required. Any future paid service will be optional, and we'll agree it with you beforehand. FarmUnits does not collect rent or take commission on rental agreements.
What kinds of space can I list?
Storage units, workshops, offices, barns and other farm buildings, and yards, on farms and rural business sites anywhere in the UK. Describe the space as it is now and the uses you are willing to consider.
Can I advertise more than one unit?
Yes. Add a farm profile and create a separate listing for each available unit. You can manage more than one farm or site from one account, and duplicate a listing to save time when you have similar units.
Do I need a finished listing straight away?
No. Save a draft and come back to add details or photographs. Submit it for review when it is ready.
How many photographs can I add?
Up to ten per unit. Six to ten clear daylight photographs, covering the outside, entrance, interior, floor, facilities and access, usually work best. See our listing checklist.
What happens after I submit a listing?
We review listings before they appear publicly. If something needs clarifying, you'll see a request in your dashboard. Review checks the advert. It is not a property inspection or a guarantee that a space suits a particular use.
How do I receive enquiries?
Enquiries arrive in your dashboard, and email notifications tell you when someone gets in touch. You reply in the same conversation and arrange viewings directly.
Does FarmUnits manage the tenancy?
No. Owners and tenants arrange viewings and agree rental terms directly. FarmUnits provides the advert and the enquiry system, and does not act as a letting agent.
Can I control the location shown?
Yes. Public pages show the town and county. A farm's postcode is used for distance matching and is not displayed on the listing. Owners can share the exact address privately when arranging a viewing.
How do I stop enquiries once a unit is let?
Mark the unit as let in your dashboard. It leaves the available search results, and its page shows that it is no longer available. You can also pause a listing temporarily. See keeping your availability up to date.
Do I need planning permission to let a farm building?
Often, yes, if the building will be used for something other than agriculture. In England, Class R permitted development may allow some commercial uses, with conditions. Our guide on how to rent out an unused farm building explains the checks.
How do I find a farm unit to rent?
Search farm units by postcode, town or county, and filter by type of space, size, rent and facilities. Open a listing to see the full details and send an enquiry to the owner.
Is it free for tenants?
Yes. Searching, creating an account, saving units, sending enquiries and receiving search alerts are all free.
Why are there no listings near me?
We are welcoming our first farmers. Create a search alert and confirm your email to hear when matching spaces are listed.
How do search alerts work?
Save the location, type of space, size and budget you need. When a matching unit is published, we email you. You can pause, edit or delete alerts, or unsubscribe from any alert email.
Are properties inspected?
No. Prospective tenants should view the space in person and check that it suits their intended use. Our viewing checklist lists what to look at and ask.
Who pays business rates on a farm unit?
Normally the tenant, as the occupier, once the building is used for a non-agricultural business. Many small units qualify for small business rate relief. Read our guide for small businesses renting a farm unit.
How do I report a problem with a listing?
Signed-in users can report a listing from its page. We review reports and may ask the owner to make changes, or pause the listing.
How do I contact FarmUnits?
Use our contact page. We aim to reply as soon as we can.
